COURSE SUBJECTS
This unit introduces the language of healthcare, focusing on the terms you need to know in an administration role.
Key topics include:
- Components of medical words: prefixes, suffixes, and root words
- Common medical abbreviations, acronyms, and symbols
- Overview of body systems
- Clinical and diagnostic terminology
- Key terms used in general practice, specialist clinics, and hospitals
- Strategies for building and maintaining your medical terminology knowledge

- BSBMED301 Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately
HOW YOU'LL BE ASSESSED
Throughout the course, you will complete a range of activities designed to help you demonstrate your knowledge and practical skills. These tasks reflect situations commonly encountered in healthcare administration roles.
Written Questions
You will complete a range of questions designed to check your understanding of the topics covered in each unit. These may include short written answers, multiple-choice questions and responses to workplace scenarios.
Document and Task Submissions
Some activities involve completing and uploading example documents, such as completed forms, simple patient letters and patient billing. You may also be asked to upload screenshots showing how you completed certain tasks.
Recorded Communication Activities
At certain points in the course, you will record short audio responses in our Learning Management System (LMS). These recordings allow you to demonstrate how you would communicate and apply your knowledge in everyday workplace situations.
Recording your responses is simple and can be done using your computer’s microphone and camera directly within the LMS.

- Payment plan – request to pay your course fees in weekly or fortnightly instalments.
